Mr. Muncher Game

This low cost, easy to make game is an engaging way to incorporate visual motor, fine motor, and executive functioning skills into your child’s play!

Materials Needed

  • Tennis Ball

  • Pom poms

  • Permanent marker

  • Cutting utensil (we recommend a box cutter)

  • Scoops or kid tweezers

Make a Mr. Muncher

  1. Using the box cutter, cut a slit in the tennis ball about 3 inches long in for a “mouth” (Parents please do this ahead of time and keep sharp objects away from your child. This does require some force, so keep safety in mind!)

  2. Draw silly eyes above the mouth

  3. You can draw red dots on the sides of the ball to show your child where their finger placement should be

LET’S DOT IT!

These DOT Levels are designed to match the activities to your child’s abilities and needs. Think of it as a way to measure how well an activity aligns with your child’s development, NOT as a rigid classification. This ensures that the activity offers the perfect amount of challenge for your child — neither too easy or too difficult. If your child can easily do level 1 play, then try a level 2 activity!

Level 1:

  1. Allow your child to use two hands

  2. Have your child keep the mouth open by pinching and use the other hand to place pom poms into Mr. Muncher’s mouth

Level 2:

  1. Lay pom poms on the ground and have your child pick them up by squeezing the tennis ball to open up Mr. Muncher’s mouth.

  2. Have your child pick up pom poms with tweezers or scoops and place the pom poms in Mr. Muncher’s mouth

Level 3:

  1. Have your child cross their midline to retrieve pom poms

  2. Have a specific order for your child to pick up the pom poms (by size or color)

  3. Utilize a timer to set goals for pom pom collecting or beat the clock

  4. Have your child pick up and transport pom poms to designated area
