Halloween Sensory Bins 3 Ways
Sensory Bins are an exciting and creative way to incorporate sensory play while integrating functional skills, emotional regulation, fine motor skills, and visual motor skills.
What We Got
We spent $30 at Target and created 3 unique Halloween Sensory Buckets. Here is what we got:
Pumpkin bucket
Plastic pumpkin eggs
Halloween “grass” with ghost confetti
4 bags of dry black beans
Colorful mini skeletons
Squishy skulls
Spider Rings
Stamps
Stickers
Hashtag blocks
Snakes
Halloween Egg Hunt
Target visual motor, fine motor (opening eggs), and language skills
Pour the black beans in your bucket
Fill the pumpkin eggs with a variety of the smaller sensory toys — squishy skulls, snakes, stamps, blocks, and rings
Have your child hunt for the eggs and see what they find!
Talk to your child about their experience. “How do the beans feel?” “That spider feels pokey.” “Wow this is squishy!”
Sticker Match Search and Find
Target visual motor planning, emotional regulation, functional skills, and fine motor skills
Use the same bucket of black beans
On a blank sheet of paper, place different stickers in a row
Cut out a matching pair to the stickers on your sheet and hide them in the eggs
Bury the eggs in your bucket for your child to find
After opening the egg, have your child remove the sticker and place it next to it’s match
Keep doing this until all the stickers are found!
Removing the stickers or finding matches may be frustrating for your child. Keep encouraging them and only step in if they ask or indicate needing assistance.
Color and Object Sorting
Target visual motor, fine motor, and emotional regulation.
Fill your empty bucket with the Halloween grass and confetti.
Bury your objects in the grass (no need for eggs for this one)
Have your child search for specific objects or colors to find
OR let your child freely hunt for objects and sort them by color, object, size, feel etc.
The grass will add an added sensory element and challenge as some objects might get tangled in the grass or are difficult to see.
